Champions of the Earth
Part audio drama, part tabletop gaming livestream, CHAMPIONS OF THE EARTH was a Parsec-nominated biweekly podcast that blends the epic unpredictable storytelling of tabletop RPG shows like The Adventure Zone and Critical Role with the thematics of the golden age of teenage magical warrior shows like Voltron, Sailor Moon, and Power Rangers into a fully produced, original cinematic audio experience.
The show ran for 30 episodes and even spawned a real actual book I helped Collin Kelly write and publish after it funded on Kickstarter. The game now exists in the wild, but it was a bumpy and expensive learning experience in bringing a physical book to market while the pandemic spiked shipping, manufacturing costs, and general logistics in ways the kickstarter budget and our own personal budgets had to stretch to meet.
One of the most intense work experiences of my life, I produced, recorded, sound designed, edited (with help from Amanda Powers and Collin Kelly) and mastered (in 24-track stereo surround) the show on a (mostly) biweekly schedule. I was also in the principal cast, performing and playtesting Collin’s original game system as his story unfolded.
